Let’s face it, men. Weddings are for women. Men are self-moving decorations at the event!
Planning for a wedding, the wedding spirit, the romance, the awe and wonder of it all come naturally to women. And why not? They’ve been planning weddings in their heads ever since they play-acted a hundred different versions of the grand wedding of Barbie with Ken (no relationship to author). So, when the real wedding finally comes, women are in their element and God save any man who gets in their way!
For a man, it’s exhausting to even think about a wedding. What to do, how to do it, to say or not to say – a thousand buts and ifs play themselves out. Navigating a wedding with its endless little details regarding protocol and etiquette is like swimming in the sand.
Fortunately, women do realize the Neanderthals that we are and make the male’s role as simple as possible. Even so, if you arrive at the wedding without sufficient preparation, you stand a 50-50 chance of screwing it up royally.
Shockingly, most men agree that they go into this once-in-a-lifetime event with little or no preparation!
If you somehow manage to blunder your way through the wedding, then you are stuck looking into the accusing eyes of a beloved daughter, wife or friend and guilt wells up from inside.
Almost every college has certain traditions it follows before a big sports event. If you don’t know the tradition, you can feel out of place. Weddings too are steeped in tradition and if you’re not prepared for your role, you may embarrass yourself and others.
You CAN win the day as the most good looking, charming man of the event, saying just the right words and doing just the right things. All it takes is a little preparation.
When my daughter was getting married, I
started my wedding guidance blog to keep track of events.
I was one of those fathers who wanted to know what I’m paying for and
why. Most importantly, I wanted to make sure that my daughter and my
wife had wonderfulmemories of the event.
So, I started writing about everything that was going on, from planning
the wedding, our budget and wedding preparations to my thoughts and
ideas.
